On the way to Rome, we stopped off at the Poggio della Volara winery in Umbria for lunch and wine tasting.

 

Marco, the owner of the family-run winery/farm, told us many stories of how he gave up a high paying job to live his dream of owning a farm. He produces high quality grapes and olives and is currently leading a movement with others in the area to produce much healthier and tastier olives. We were educated on olive oil making and things to watch out for when we buy olive oil. We were served an extremely delicious meal prepared by his wife paired with various wines.

 

At the end, his wife made the most delicious homemade cake to celebrate the birthday of two of the tour group members!
